Soca is unstoppable right now, and with carnival season about to hit an even bigger high, the region’s top Soca artists are dominating the Caribbean charts with their fresh releases. It’s that time of year again to fete, learn the new songs, and get ready for the road. Trinidad Carnival is less than a week away, and Jamaica Carnival follows hot on its heels in late April. To help you stay road-ready, here’s CARIB VOXX’s list of 10 Soca songs you need on your playlist.
Yung Bredda – Greatest Bend Over
This one urges you to “take it easy” as Yung Bredda smoothly delivers “Greatest Bend Over.” This tune could be a calm warm up or a nice cool down into your session, whether it’s the gym or on your way home from work. However, it can serve many other purposes on the road when you hear this one on the truck speakers, it all depends on your interpretation of the rhythm. If you didn’t add this track to your playlist within 30 seconds of the song you are already late.
Kes – Cocoa Tea
This track may be familiar, if not then the artist sure is. “Cocoa Tea” has already been making its rounds among soca lovers as Kes has undoubtedly done it again. His melodic voice is one of a kind as he delivers smooth vocals for the ladies to bubble like “Cocoa Tea,” and like cocoa tea, you can have this one early in the morning. Or, if you are a tea lover, right through the day.
Kes – No Sweetness
“No Sweetness” by Kes is another smooth hit for the ladies who are here for a whine and a whine only, no feelings, no sweetness. You may need to get familiar with this one as it is sure to be in every fete. This track is on the Big Links Riddim which is infectious by itself. “No Sweetness” deserves to be played everywhere, but first, it deserves to be added to your playlist.
GBM Nutron – One Piece
A good time is embedded in this beat. GBM Nutron lets the ladies know that he just wants one whine, and when this is on the speakers it’s going to be hard to resist. You might have to put this one on loop as the track ends too soon. Just as how the DJ In the fete might have to pull it a few times. Until then, add it to your rotation so you have enough time with it before the season is in full swing.
Machel Montano – Pardy
Machel Montano, an icon of genre celebrates Caribbean culture in this high-energy track that is sure to have you jumping on the road this year. Not just the track but the music video is iconic in itself for so many reasons. The imagery celebrates Caribbean culture and soca at all ages and all stages in life and Machel Montano is very right, we deserve a “Pardy.” So, make sure “Pardy” is in your playlist.
Full Blown – Good Spirits
The Big Links Riddim strikes again. This time with the track “Good Spirits” by Full Blown. This one will get you in good spirits wherever it’s played. Full Blown knows how to produce hits and this one should make this carnival season special as it resonates a good vibe in every line and melody.
Voice – Too Own Way
A high-energy track celebrating the sweet chaos of carnival and fete that we all love. “Too Own Way” says Voice, claiming he is causing trouble. The music makes you climb, the music makes you descend, the music makes you wave things in the air, we all understand. However, as influential as this track is, maybe when it plays, please jump and fete responsibly.
Patrice Roberts – Great Escape
“Great Escape” essentially speaks of getting away from the harsh realities and mundane days to enjoy carnival and soca. Plus, it’s Patrice Roberts, we will meet her anywhere she tells us to. Another energetic track on the list, we will definitely be running across the stage to this one. So, make sure you know your cues when this one plays in the fete and on the road.
Mical Teja – Energy
Mical Teja had an immense 2024 and goes into this carnival season charged and energetic. This one has the potential to be a flag-waving anthem as it has the melodies and vibe for you to just drift away in the sound. Mical Teja has been consistent with his sound and will enhance your playlist when you add “Energy.” You will thank us for this one.
Trinidad Killa – Eskimo
Another culturally relevant track that speaks of our family and friends overseas celebrating and missing the culture, Trinidad Killa captured the feeling perfectly. This might hit a bit more for those flying in for carnival from the cold, we can’t wait to see you in the sun and warm weather jumping with us. Till then, this one should bring you through the snow until you get home.
