We’re four months into 2018 and the music scene has been sweeter than ever, I’m really enjoying this. We have a plethora of genres sweeping the Caribbean basin, and I’m gonna tell you 10 songs I’m really feeling right now.

Splinters

“Splinters” by Shal Marshall, because there are moments when you should leave your behaviour at home. This just may be my fave for the 2018 Jamaican soca season, this song puts me in the mood to get on bad.

Bout Noon

“Bout Noon” by Protoje, this one is for those moments when you miss someone dear to you. This jam has a nice little baseline that you can rock along to and trust and hope you’ll see them soon.

Justice

“Justice” by Sevana, because Sevana’s voice is of a different calibre, and I want you to take in the bridge, and that she’s singing about the end of time with fire and brimstone… and you’re still lulled by it. Bonus: This song is speaking about protecting the environment.

sinG with God

“sinG with God” by Royal Blu and Foresta featuring Runkus, firstly, the lyrics of this song wooed me, it’s unconventional. Both Royal Blu and Runkus uniquely and perfectly placed their lyrics on the instrumental and Foresta wrapped them up in a criss gift box with a bow on top.

Love Has Found I

“Love Has Found I” by Jah9, this one is brand new, it’s a passion filled love song with the roots and dub style we love Jah9 for. It’s beautiful to feel and hear about someone’s love story, and I feel like you should hear it.

Bullet Proof

“Bullet Proof” by Popcaan, “Mi nuh carry feelings, mi carry me gun dem….” I’m not a gun woman but the line stuck with me because sometimes you gotta leave certain situations, sometimes you gotta fight for friendships, and sometimes you haffi blow up the bridge and walk away with it burning.

Yabba Dabba Doo

“Yabba Dabba Doo” by Vybz Kartel, gets me hype [af] as hell, I don’t support skin lightening or bleaching any at all, no exceptions but I can rate this song because Kartel has some strong lyrics. For example, “Tell you little friend go get herself together, face white, body black, r**claat is a zebra?”

Dweet (Genna Bounce)

“Dweet” (Genna Bounce) by Ding Dong, I feel like when you hear this song, you can’t help but dance, so I like it. Plus the dweet part is very catchy, so you start listening and you’re singing dweet and start flinging your shoulder too.

Body

“Body” by Kes…Oh gosh man. This reminds me of Calypso by GBM Nutron, they both have a smooth, slow grind kinda vibe with interesting variations in the instrumental. Body is the soca song for you and your lover.

She’s a Queen

“She’s a Queen” by Keznamdi, the riddim or instrumental coupled with the uplifting lyrics just does it for me. He croons that you should treat women like queens, whether your lady, your mother, you sister or aunt.

There we have it, I’m sure you know some if not all of these songs, drop a comment below and tell me which one in the list you know and love.
