Whether you’re caught up with ‘too many feelings’ or feeling renewed, ‘fresh and clean’, the rainy season brings about a shift in the atmosphere. Whatever your mood, here are the songs we think set the tone for this season: 15 Songs Yuh Betta Stream
Lagoon Wavey – “Confidential”
Released earlier in November, this song absolutely deserved a place on our list. Wavey’s captivating vocals are accompanied by a bewitching bassline and enticing lyrics. The unique arrangement in “Confidential” makes for an instant hit. We couldn’t keep it to ourselves.
Stalk Ashley – “Incognito” ft. Alkaline
October gave us the duet we never knew we needed. “Incognito” is a tribute to sneaky links everywhere. Like Alka said, “we nuh need nobody ‘proval.” In her typical fashion, Stalk Ashley’s voice both soothes and excites. With Alkaline’s smooth flow, the pair delivered a solid single.
Dexta Daps – “Call Me If”
Ever since its release in July, “Call Me If” has been stuck on everyone’s mind. In his quintessential style, Dexta delivers clever and raunchy lyrics with enticing vocals. Since 2020 has been such a stressful year, it might be prudent to explore options in the face of uncertainty. With Dappa Don as an option, who wouldn’t like to be free?
Jaz Elise – “Fresh and Clean” ft. Govana
If “Fresh and Clean’” had a look, it would be these two. Although the original was a bop in its own right, the addition of the Strike Force Boss makes this track a force to be reckoned with. As Jaz Elise’s first single released under her new deal with RCA Records and In.Digg.Nation Collective, the track’s freshness is surpassed only by its clean visuals.
Govana – “That Me Like Hear” ft. Xtassi
The first line says it all. “That Me Like Hear” is for those who know the value of monetizing their skills. All good deeds should go rewarded, and that goes both ways. By whatever means necessary, a standard has to be maintained. Xtassi’s granny was right, ‘one hand cyah clap’ at all.
Tessellated – No Ansa ft. Crayon
An alluring addition to the ever increasing index of collaborations between Caribbean and African artists, Tessellated’s “No Ansa” is a laid-back tropical track. We can all relate to prioritizing our beds over a call, whether or not someone else is in it. Sometimes, we just want to sleep.
GBM Nutron, Stadic & Captain John – “Take Yuh Time”
Driving home the point that the genre shouldn’t be seasonal, this soca song released in October brings the carnival vibe to your home. The music video features bajan dancer Nandi Yard, who doesn’t miss a single beat. The perfect balance of erotic and energetic, I advise you to ‘take yuh time’ and savor this single.
Verse Simmonds – “Bedroom Bully” ft. Jada Kingdom
Dancehall’s latest “it” couple has released what we hope to be the first of many hits to come. The chemistry between Simmonds and Kingdom is audibly palpable, and is perfectly illustrated in the music video. Fans are now asking who is the real bedroom bully, and while it’s unlikely we’ll get an answer, feel free to try and decipher it yourself. Di video tun up.
Masego – “Silver Tongue Devil” ft. Shenseea
Though this might be the first time many have heard of Masego, the musician of Jamaican parentage has been making waves for almost five years. With his identifiable ‘Trap House Jazz’ signature, his music goes down smooth. Between Shenseea’s verse and the sultry sax break, “Silver Tongue Devil” will leave you feeling sufficiently beguiled.
Skillibeng – “Crocodile Teeth”
The line “From unnuh doe grimey, unnuh doe grimey” perfectly encapsulates the essence of this tune. A ballad to badness, “Crocodile Teeth” has been massively popular since its early October release, amassing over 3 million views on YouTube. Just like ‘Miss ‘Rona’, ‘everyting get f**k when ‘Skilli’ reach’.
Hey Choppi – “Drip” ft. Coutain
A more regional take on dancehall, “Drip” embraces the ‘Trinibad’ style with the suavite of its beat. With ‘dripping’ being the most recent way to describe one’s sauce and swagger, this track will give you the courage to win over that special person just in time for cuffing season. (pro tip: complimenting their intelligence makes a really good impression).
Masicka- “I Wish”
“I wish” is seemingly Masicka’s prayer of forgiveness, to his mother and to God. He believes that the way he’s lived his life thus far diverts from the grace extended by the aforementioned entities. The music video addresses the paranoia he experiences as a result of the way he has previously been forced to navigate the world around him. By the end of the video, he has chosen to “bury himself and reincarnate”, doing away with the old Masicka.
Squash – “Still A Roam”
Squash steadily releases hits, and “Still A Roam” is no exception. It serves as a not-so-casual reminder that regardless of others’ negative opinions, he remains unbothered. No rumors or criticism will stop the 6ix Boss from getting that bag and enjoying his life. Period.
Rygin King – “Glu”
Rygin King is yet another sharp shooter in the dancehall sphere. “Glu” details a particularly enticing sexual experience . It features a slow, sultry rhythm, seductive lyrics, and an equally sensual music video, making it perfect for the rainy weather.
Jimmy October – “Too Many feelings”
It’s not lost on us that Jimmy October released this track in the middle of October. Feelings can be difficult to navigate, especially towards the end of the year – an introspective time for many people. Everything from the soothing melody to the bucolic visuals takes you on a meditative trip that will have you journeying inside yourself. Feel responsibly.
