Typical Intern Tasks

As an Editorial Intern at CARIB VOXX, you’ll be immersed in the world of digital media, honing your editorial skills, producing content, and collaborating with our experienced team. Responsibilities include:

• Daily Pitching: Participate in daily pitch meetings, presenting new headlines and article ideas each day.
• Content Creation: Write a minimum of 10 articles per week on a variety of culturally relevant topics.
• Editorial Assistance: Periodically edit submissions from other writers, refining content for tone, grammar, and accuracy.
• Content Management: Build articles within our content management system (full training provided).
• Image & Media Sourcing: Find engaging images, hyperlinks, and in-body content to enhance articles.
• SEO Optimization: Apply SEO techniques on every article to maximize reach (training provided).
• Cross-Department Projects: Assist in tasks such as pulling weekly/monthly article analytics, conducting PR outreach, scheduling social media, and writing for video content series.
• Collaboration with Partner Sites: Support editorial projects, expand skill sets, and network with team members and partner platforms.

Requirements

• Technical Setup: Access to a personal computer and a reliable internet connection.
• Communication: Real-time availability and communication with the team during shifts via ClickUp and email (chat, voice, video calls, conference calls, and screen-sharing).
• Set Weekly Schedule: Work a consistent schedule, 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, between 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM. Be fully available and active during scheduled hours for ClickUp communication and collaboration.
• Self-Motivation: Ability to meet deadlines and produce high-quality content in a remote work setting.
• Passion for Culture: A genuine interest in African and Caribbean culture, and familiarity with music, art, and lifestyle trends.

Learning Objectives, Supervision & Feedback

• Supervision: Interns will work closely with an experienced editor who will offer regular guidance and constructive feedback throughout the internship.
• Skill Development: Interns will refine their writing, editing, research, and communication skills in a professional, remote environment.
• Portfolio Building: Gain bylined articles on CARIB VOXX, ideal for your portfolio.
• Performance Tracking: Supervisors will track weekly and monthly article traffic and use performance metrics to evaluate progress. For those needing academic credit, CARIB VOXX will complete mid- or end-of-semester evaluations upon request.

Eligibility, Stipend & Credit

• Stipend: $1,500 USD paid upon successful completion of the internship.
• Academic Credit: Available for interns upon school request.
• Location: Candidates must be located in Jamaica for the duration of the internship.
