“I think honestly breaking it down and understanding yourself and the nuances of who you are as a person really helps! Are you happy with you? Are you okay with that you do?”

The burnished skin and engaging smile Naiomi Maharaj parades in her breathtaking photoshoot doesn’t give a holistic indication about the essence of who she is as a woman. Organically, we can be enchanted by the physical beauty of Naiomi Maharaj, based on the confidence she asserts herself with, but we must also her highlight her dynamism and vivacious entrepreneurial spirit.

“Apart from esthetics, I have a retail clothing company and a marketing brand. I have a team of people who create specific content for companies and I also manage promotional representatives who are ambassadors for different companies”, Maharaj explained to us. She continued her opening remarks about creative entrepreneurship by saying that “I’m proud to have my spa, the marketing and promotional company called Maya Agency TT that was established in 2019 and ‘Omi Oh My’, the retail clothing company.“

The confidence Naiomi exudes now, was only achieved because she has been on a lifelong escapade to heighten her self-awareness and invest in the value of loving herself. She has overcome unimaginable insecurities and countless thoughts of self-doubt. She was transparent with us in sharing that “Crazy enough, when I started modeling at 17 everyone was like you’re a beautiful girl but you’re just a little bit too big! They said you’re already short so you can’t be short and fat. It was difficult because I was young and having this feeling of being not enough was strange. Fast forward to now, the Caribbean body is now accepted as curvaceous. I’m going to have curves because I’m a Caribbean woman who eats fry fish, dumpling, and cassava, Every woman’s body is different and there is beauty in that “

Feelings of inadequacy, lingered on Naiomi’s mind many times, and her desire to be an esthetician often led her to question the validity of her professional path; whether it would be socially accepted and economically viable. Through the process of time and self-actualization, Naiomi’s resounding answer to the question of whether she will be good enough is – YES!

Despite graduating from the Anglia Ruskin University with a major in Marketing, Naiomi Maharaj felt that her professional destiny stood within the realm of esthetics, blogging, and modeling. Prior to graduating, she worked as a sales manager for noteworthy companies in Trinidad & Tobago such as Magical Experience Ltd and On The Verge. Sales gave Naiomi another opportunity to further harness her self–love. Sales invariably come with rejection and you have to be solid enough to not let the disappointments break you down.

“At a very young age, my Dad was a small business owner, and his example of having multiple projects while working in insurance inspired me to do the same. I also have a personality that shows that I’m a very passionate person. I was always into fashion and esthetics but I just have this need to be engaged in multiple work projects simultaneously.”

Her stints in sales developed resilience in her character and gave her an outlet to use her warmth and charisma. Ultimately though, she decided that esthetics is where her passion was. Naiomi Maharaj is, at her core, a luminary who has embraced the language of self-edification both in words and in entrepreneurship. She is undeniably poised to inspire a younger generation of Caribbean women through her professional depth and tenacious entrepreneurial spirit.

“We are not meant to be used but to be loved and respected. That happiness and peacefulness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts, active mindfulness, and guarding of your thoughts daily. These values are the driving force behind my various businesses and each business represents one or more of those principles. For example, the name of my spa is LU Aesthetics. ‘LU’ means to ‘love yourself’ because to me, when someone comes to my spa they demonstrate that they love taking care of themselves and in return, they receive love from me. I ensure that they are relaxed, in a peaceful environment, and can feel a sense of joy, pride, and beauty about themselves after. TO GIVE IS TO LOVE AND TO LOVE IS TO GIVE.” she dotingly stated as we ended our riveting conversation with her.
