Following a year-long celebration of reggae legend Bob Marley’s 75th birthday, the Marley family has big plans for Marley’s 76th birthday on February 6. These include a virtual birthday celebration hosted by Cedella Marley, the release of Songs of Freedom: The Island Years on both 6LP and 3CD sets, and a book release by Ziggy Marley in honor of his memory.
There is usually an annual celebration on Marley’s birthday at the Bob Marley Museum. However, this year, a global virtual event that will imitate the usual program will be hosted by Cedella Marley. The theme this year is ‘Survival” and includes messages and performances from family and friends, yoga, a children’s sing-along, and more. This will be streaming live from Bob Marley’s official YouTube channel.
Tuff Gong Radio on SiriusXM Satellite Radio will play Bob Marley’s music all day. This will stop only for special programs such as Ziggy Marley’s new children’s show and snippets of the annual “Reggae Jam Session” concert which usually closes the annual celebrations. You may also hear exclusive content from those signed to Tuff Gong. Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Radio can be found on the SiriusXM app on channel 19 in the Hip Hop/R&B category.
Additionally, Ziggy Marley will be publishing a book in honor of his father’s 76th birthday called Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend. The book contains over 150 photos of Bob Marley from the family archive as a monument of his life and legacy. He will be discussing the book with six-time New York Times bestselling author, Malcolm Gladwell at a virtual Live Talks Los Angeles event at 5:00 pm PST/8 pm EST. Click here to buy tickets.
