Beneath the striking beauty and the arresting cadence of Denyque Dontré Welds Mullings; lies a woman who at her core has always embraced the language of empowerment, spirituality and self-sufficiency. It is egregious that women in the Jamaican society are still being subjected to hearing baseless assertions from political leaders, implying that their roles are antedated ones; which confine their responsibilities to nurturing in the home. The modern Caribbean woman is particularly driven on cultivating a lifestyle for herself defined by the harmony of family fulfillment aligned with the fulfillment of professional aspirations and Denyque is one of them. The wife and proud mother of two returns from a four-year hiatus to music but if you have been following the Super Girl’s musical trajectory over the years; she was always been determined to do it her way.

When the precedence for female entertainers in the Jamaican music space was cemented at hyper-sexuality and raunchiness, Denyque chose subtle sensuality and class. Songs like Hooked On Me, Summer Love and Make Me Believe You all carved out a unique niche for the proud Pisces and it’s no wonder she is confident she can re-engage that audience with Good Good Productions by her side. Lacking in neither looks nor perspective, Denyque’s social media fans enjoy her openness about spirituality with equal satisfaction as they enjoy her “issa snack’ pics. Entrée Dontré sat with us for a more appetizing conversation; that will feed the insatiable hunger of curious minds; to find out where she has been and what she is up to these days.

CARIB VOXX: As you prepare to re-approach the music industry with new offerings of your artistry; how has motherhood and marriage influenced the approach you plan to take now?

Denyque: Honestly, the most influential things in my life right now are Me and my relationship with God. When I took a break back in 2016/17 it was to focus on ME and my personal development. Marriage and babies kinda just fell into the mix and I am unendingly grateful for my family but I have to always remember that I can only give 100% when I am at my best mentally, spiritually, emotionally; so I take care of me. I prayed for everything that’s started to happen, that’s about to happen, and that will happen in the future. So my approach is prayer and giving it everything I’ve got.

Good Good Productions has cemented themself as a hardcore dancehall production music group. Do you think your pop- infused style of music will align with their musical reputation?

Denyque: Absolutely. Inversely, this is what it means to be challenged as an artist and I love that. Zum is eclectic. He is like is like a musical melting pot. Trust me, they’ve cemented themselves as a hardcore dancehall entity but GGP is very versatile, very universal – like myself. We have so much in store!

You have always been an artist that has embraced collaborations with corporate entities! Tell us about your current corporate engagements and why you’ve always been comfortable navigating that space?

Denyque: Yass. I’m currently the spokesperson for Lifespan Spring Water (the purest, cleanest water in the Caribbean) & I’ve partnered with brands like Volkswagen (3 yers), Pepsi, Flow, Samsung Mobile, Iberostar, Red Stripe & the list goes on & on. The first interview I ever did entering the industry, I said that Music would be my platform to fulfill my other goals. That manifested and continues to manifest beautifully. I’m a multi-potentialite and generally I don’t believe that the traits God blessed us with should go to waste. I LOVE being on screen and I love engaging with like minds which is why RSPL Red Stripe Football Mondays was so dear to me. It comes so naturally to me and I believe that’s why I’ve always been comfortable in these plethora of social spaces.

How has being in quarantine for months helped to foster your spiritual growth? How soon can we expect new “Super Girl “material?

Denyque: I loved being in quarantine. It was GREAT for my growth – my spiritual, emotional, mental & social development. God is my G. I literally pray about everything. I got to really enjoy my kids, my daughter especially & just breathe more. Enjoy life more. New material already popping but so much more to come. ‘Well Sort’ produced by Zum was my reintroduction song then we just dropped the big bad collab with Shaneil Muir ‘Same Guy’ & more new music and new videos coming soon.

Re-entering any creative arena after a hiatus can be nerve racking for anyone! Would you be transparent with us and share what your biggest insecurity is at the moment?

Denyque: The thing that I’m most insecure about right now is Covid 19. As much as I’m taking extra precautions because I’m back at work.. I’m still scared because I have my babies to come home to. Just gonna continue to pray and give thanks for life.
