A passionate musician who’s personal experiences inspire his songs, Dmitri Izem has been recording and releasing music on his own for approximately 5 years now. He tells how he got the name Izem from his brother, which means “strength of a lion”, how his brother perceives him to be.
In 2017, he released a 16-track project entitled ’24 Eden Garden, Kingston 10′, a fictional address to reflect the concept of the Garden of Eden in the Bible and how the idea of sin came into the world. The cover art depicts a politician handing over of an apple (Sin) to another citizen.
Summer 2018 saw Izem releasing 2 singles ‘Stars In Th3 Ski3z’ and ‘Who Jah Bless. He also had the opportunity to perform on TVJ’s ‘Smile Jamaica’. ‘Stars In Th3 Ski3z’ came to him one night while he and a friend were simply walking when his friend made a remark that “there ain’t always stars in the sky”, Izem’s response to that was, “but somewhere out there, there is always light”. These lines were to become the hook for his new song, produced by Loren Beats. He sings about overcoming obstacles and remaining hopeful throughout the direst of circumstances. In ‘Who Jah Bless’ Izem sings about envy; “coming up envy has been one of the greatest opponents we’ve ever encountered. Its a disease and trust me a lot of people are diagnosed”.
STARS IN THE SKIES
Izem’s hard drive containing unreleased music recently got damaged, so future releases might get delayed. He’s an independent artist with a genuine love for the craft and a gifted songwriter and there are no doubts about his capabilities. His social media handle is @just.izem, follow him as he continues to grow musically.
