With Trinidad and Tobago’s entertainment industry back up and running, it isn’t hard to find a party to attend. There’s always a soca fete, deep house rave, or afrobeat party popping up. However, with so many options, deciding where the next pump is can be difficult. So, why be forced to choose when you can have it all? Mixx Tings promises to cater to your every desire, whether you’re in the mood for afrobeat, house, soca, hip hop, or even dancehall. In preparation for their final instalment of the summer, we delve into what makes this event a breath of fresh air.
Now, what exactly is Mixx Tings? According to founder and co-host Karrilee Fifi, “Mixx Tings is a multi-faceted platform and lifestyle brand specializing in curating experiences rooted in the fusion of the arts.” Between the myriad of music genres, the trademark double stages patrons can alternate between, and art instalments, the brand remains true to its mission statement. The first iteration of the bash took place on June 24 at Euphoria Lounge.
Delving into Mixx Tings led us to discover that Fifi boasts an impressive resume when it pertains to cultivating the ultimate festival. Her experience co-producing events such as Life in Color, Sunset Festival, weTT Republic, and Sound of the Underground (SOTU), coupled with co-host Kristen Camacho’s incomparable skills as the nation’s top promoter for over 12 years, ensured that Mixx Tings would be a success.
When asked about what sets Mixx Tings apart from other parties Fifi said, “At the core of events, I believe the music selection is of the utmost importance. It’s what guides the vibes of the party from start to finish. For Mixx Tings, we give each DJ a curated list for each time slot, so there’s not much repetition and that patrons feel like they’re on a musical journey.” A journey that had guests begging to make it again. The event was such a hit that it came back for a second night on July 15.
An avid partygoer may eventually find past festivities blurring together when trying to recall them, but Mixx Tings was specifically curated to stand out. Everything including the games, 3D mapping, and even the iconic neon graffiti concept created by Joshua Awai, was designed to leave a lasting impression. “These are just simple things that spark conversations, create memorable moments, and allow patrons to connect.”
The stages are set for Mixx Tings’ last summer hoorah at Normandie Hotel on August 26. All that’s left to do is for you to go mix things up.
