Typical Intern Tasks

As a Camera Operator Intern at CARIB VOXX, you’ll dive into the visual heartbeat of our brand, gaining hands-on experience capturing dynamic and authentic content. Responsibilities include:

• On-Site Filming: Assist the team on-set to capture footage for CARIB VOXX projects, including interviews, events, video series and special features.
• Pre-Production Prep: Work with the video team to plan and coordinate shoot logistics, including scouting locations, preparing equipment, and setting up shots.
• Live Event Coverage: Capture live events with skill and precision, documenting essential moments and creating visually compelling footage for CARIB VOXX’s social channels.
• Footage Review & Logging: Assist with organizing, cataloging, and reviewing footage to ensure high-quality material is ready for post-production.
• Technical Support: Aid in setting up and operating camera equipment, lights, and sound as needed, ensuring quality production standards are met.
• Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with social media, editorial, and video editing teams to ensure footage aligns with broader content strategies.
• Creativity in Motion: Bring a creative eye to every shoot, suggesting unique angles, shot types, and other visual elements that capture the vibrancy of African and Caribbean culture.

Requirements

• Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of camera operation, lighting, and sound equipment; previous experience with DSLR or mirrorless cameras is a plus.
• Communication & Collaboration: Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively on-site and virtually, with real-time availability via ClickUp and email.
• Weekly Schedule: Availability for 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, on a pre-set schedule approved prior to starting the internship.
• Physical Readiness: Ability to handle camera equipment and stand for extended periods during shoots.
• Creative Mindset: A natural sense for framing, lighting, and capturing engaging, visually dynamic footage.
• Passion for Culture: A strong interest in African and Caribbean music, art, and lifestyle, with a desire to document and celebrate cultural narratives through video.

Learning Objectives, Supervision & Feedback

• Supervision: Interns will be guided by a seasoned camera operator and video director, who will offer support and feedback throughout the internship.
• Skill Development: Gain expertise in camera operation, shot composition, lighting, and live event coverage, building a solid foundation in video production.
• Portfolio Building: Create high-quality footage for a recognized digital platform, which can be included in your personal portfolio.
• Performance Tracking: Supervisors will review footage quality and production effectiveness, providing constructive feedback weekly. CARIB VOXX can also provide academic credit upon request.

Eligibility, Stipend & Credit

• Stipend: $1,500 USD paid upon successful completion of the internship.
• Academic Credit: Available for interns upon school request.
• Location: Candidates must be located in Jamaica for the duration of the internship.
