Typical Intern Tasks
As a Photography & Art Direction Intern at CARIB VOXX, you’ll play a crucial role in capturing our brand’s bold and immersive visuals. This role blends on-location photography with the strategic vision of art direction, giving you hands-on experience in shaping the visual language of CARIB VOXX. Key responsibilities include:

• Photography: Capture high-quality images of events, artists, cultural landmarks, and behind-the-scenes content that showcase the essence of African and Caribbean culture.
• Art Direction: Collaborate with the creative team to conceptualize photo shoots and set the aesthetic direction for CARIB VOXX’s visual content.
• Styling & Composition: Assist in styling photoshoots, selecting props, and curating backdrops to ensure that each shot aligns with our brand identity.
• Content Editing: Edit and enhance photos for publication, with a focus on color correction, retouching, and enhancing the mood of each image.
• Visual Storytelling: Develop storyboards and shot lists that visually communicate the essence of each project, helping bring CARIB VOXX stories to life through your lens.
• Collaboration with Designers: Work closely with graphic designers and social media teams to create cohesive visuals for our platforms, including Instagram, website, and editorial articles.
• Research & Inspiration: Stay updated on current photography and design trends, particularly those related to youth culture and the African-Caribbean aesthetic.

Requirements

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in photography (DSLR or mirrorless) with strong skills in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or other editing software.
• Artistic Vision: A keen eye for detail, composition, and color, with the ability to capture culturally inspired shots that resonate with the CARIB VOXX audience.
• Equipment: Access to your own camera and equipment. Must have access to a personal computer and a reliable internet connection for remote tasks.
• Communication & Availability: Able to participate actively in team meetings via ClickUp and email, responding to feedback and collaborating closely with other departments.
• Flexible Schedule: Willingness to work on-location during select events and flexible hours, with availability for 20-25 hours per week.
• Passion for Culture: A deep interest in African and Caribbean culture, trends, and visual storytelling.

Learning Objectives, Supervision & Feedback

• Supervision: Interns will be mentored by CARIB VOXX’s lead photographer and art director, receiving constructive feedback and hands-on guidance throughout the internship.
• Skill Development: Gain real-world experience in both photography and art direction, with practical training in visual storytelling, branding, and creative project management.
• Portfolio Building: Develop a portfolio of published work under the CARIB VOXX name, including event photography, editorial imagery, and culturally immersive visuals.
• Performance Evaluation: Supervisors will review your work on a weekly and monthly basis, assessing progress in capturing brand-aligned imagery. CARIB VOXX will accommodate school-required evaluations upon request.

Eligibility, Stipend & Credit

• Stipend: $1,500 USD paid upon successful completion of the internship.
• Academic Credit: Available for interns upon school request.
• Location: Candidates must be based in Jamaica and able to travel for on-location shoots during the internship.
