“10 years still in mi prime” boasts Kabaka Pyramid in the awesome lyrical prowess and flow he exercises effortlessly in his latest release, “Grateful.” The track has an embracing of a new day feel from the introduction of the horns, followed by Jemere Morgan’s melodies on the chorus. The Arsenal man brought just that in both verses, playing “tiki taka” with words and flexing literary muscles to get his point across, an ordinary feat for him as his immaculate catalogue reveals it time and time again.
This release contains a feel-good, confidence-building song, and between the horns and melodies, and the notable and intentional switching of flows, Kabaka is never shy about the message. Dubbed one of the “reggae revolutionaries” known to be direct and outspoken in their art, Kabaka delivers his verses as only Kabaka can. With quick and witty bars, an extensive vocabulary and knowledge, he delivers lines like “man a Dodd like Coxsone” referring to the late great record producer Clement Seymour “Coxsone” Dodd. He also references his longevity in the industry, his position in the “game,” and how he is thankful for it all.
The track ‘Grateful’ featuring Morgan, released on August 19, follows ‘Red Gold and Green’ by the artiste, his co-signer, and the legendary Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, whom he also mentioned in the latest single. The track also marks another release with Bebble Rock Music and Ghetto Youths International. With back-to-back releases, should we assume Kabaka has something steaming up? Either way, there’s a lot to be grateful for, and that is accurate.
