International recording artist, Kalpee, announced that the music video for the inspirational single “Climb” featuring Freetown Collective from his EP, Feel Good Playlist, Vol.1, would drop on January 15th. However, he surprised fans with an exclusive look of the full video the day before through an article featured in the UK publication, House of Solo Magazine. The Trinbagonian artist is set to release his newest project, Feel Good Playlist, Vol. 1 (Stripped Sessions) on January 15 featuring acoustic versions of his 2020 EP.

The music video was directed by Vivianna & Azriel Bahadoor of Spielzart Studios and produced by FVP Global / Keron Niles. It began with a news clip announcing Kalpee’s life-threatening motor vehicle accident in 2019 while shooting another music video; actual scenes of the accident were included. The singer sustained liver damage and broken ribs, among other injuries. This footage was then followed by a news report that Muhammad Muwakil was detained for involvement in a Black Lives Matter solidarity protest. With a renewed sense of purpose, Kalpee sings: “Journey gets harder every climb/ but I gonna lift up my head and try/ I don’t have nothing but love inside/ ‘Cause it’s a blessing to alive, a blessing to have this time.”

Scenes of Muwakil in a cell tell the story of enduring undeserved hardship in life. Although he was not arrested in real life, the story is realistic and relevant. In the courtroom defending the other half of this leading duo, Freetown Collective’s Lou Lyons declares “a Freetown is the new regime”. Their message of love and freedom is a perfect fit to this song.

The soft tones and heart-wrenching visuals remind us how blessed we are to be alive and free. Check out the video and Feel Good Playlist, Vol. 1 (Stripped Sessions) now!
