At 11pm on March 12th, Jamaica received a gift in the form of Keznamdi’s freshman album titled ‘Bloodline’. This genre defying album, fusing traditional reggae sounds and vocality with more modern music such as hip hop, rnb and dancehall makes for an entertaining listen in eleven soul satisfying tracks.
We start off with ‘Skyline Drive’. The intro serves as a groovy ode to the popular roots haunt of musicians and entertainment seekers alike. The listener is taken through Papine Square and up the hill, with Kez describing what he sees and different characters he encounters along the way.
From there, ‘Bloodline’ seamlessly changes moods. From the roots rock vibe of ‘State of Emergency’ to expertly mixing dancehall and hip hop in the single ‘City Lock’, featuring Canadian artist Tory Lanez. Also lending vocals on the project is Mortimer on the album’s titular tune, smoothly speaking to protecting one’s legacy and raising children in the way they should grow as well as Chronixx in the culminating track, ‘Victory’.
Being born into a family with parents who are lead singers of popular roots band Chakula and siblings who lead musical lives themselves, it may come as no surprise that Keznamdi would take up the mantle and become the talented artist he is today. He strives to make music that moves people and has purpose. A feat in which he has no doubt been successful.
Bloodline, the debut album of Keznamdi can be streamed right now, everywhere music is found. Happy listening!
