Maestro Don recently sat with Carib Voxx to discuss his upcoming Mixtape, ‘Project Journey’, which is set to be premiered on our website on April 1st. His most popular works ‘Grateful’ and a recently released single entitled, ‘Chargie’ are just a sample of what the young lyricist is capable of. Here’s what the deejay had to say about ‘Project Journey’ among other things:
Carib Voxx: What can fans expect from your new mixtape, ‘project journey’?
Maestro Don: Fans can expect a solid body of work in art form & lyrics. Melodies & catchy hooks to sing along with, basically showing my versatility with my sound & writing skills & a different approach overall.
Carib Voxx: What is the meaning behind the title of your mixtape?
Maestro Don: The meaning behind this mixtape is self-explanatory, it’s a project dedicated to my musical Journey thus far, the frustrations, happy times & mix feelings all expressed through songs compiled & curated for my listeners.
Carib Voxx: We understand that there were a few delays with the mixtape, could you clarify what happened why it was not released until now?
Maestro Don: This mixtape was scheduled to be released months ago, however it was delayed due to the expectations I had, I wanted it to be ‘perfect’ & full a vibes, so people can hook to it & vibe through it all without skipping anything.
Carib Voxx: How would you compare this mixtape in relations to your first mixtape menace to society?
Maestro Don: This mixtape is different from Menace in many ways, Menace was a Hardcore freestyle mixtape mainly for my hardcore fans & generate new fans, Project Journey is more of a Solid Project in terms of quality in production & a lyrics & topics; not what the average listener expects from Maestro Don.
Carib Voxx: You worked with illusion sound on your first mixtape. Why did you choose to work with Deli.g as the deejay/mixer this time around?
Maestro Don: Illusion Sound was basically unavailable at the moment & I also wanted a Difference. Heard a Mixtape that Deli did & it had that innovative & creative vibe that I was looking for &I decided to work with him & I must say, I’m glad I did, worth it & worth the wait.
Carib Voxx: Being cosigned by the “worl’ boss” Vybz Kartel on a number of occasions how has that influenced you in your approach to music?
Maestro Don: If Kartel can recognize me & say me a bad artist and him rate the movement, nobody else cya tell me otherwise, my confidence gone sky high, a world boss dat eno.
Carib Voxx: During your ‘Up to the Line’ performance this year you made mention of the Genahsyde, Gaza and Sparta camps by saying “if a nuh Gaza, a Genahsyde or Sparta”. Are you hinting to the fans of possible allegiance to one of these camps?
Maestro Don: ? nah hint ntn man, a jus da side a music deh me deh roun & me actually know dem set a man deh fi talk to, so most Naturally a dem me ago big up.
Carib Voxx: What can fans expect from you for the rest of the year?
Maestro Don: Fans can expect a great body of work & greatness, Rebranding, Maestro Don with a difference.
