Mango, The Digital Art Experience In Review
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Upon entry, the room seemed a bit less busy compared to a regular art exhibition, but with only a simple scan, the room came alive. Bonito “Don Dada” Thompson was the man responsible for this new world. Implementing augmented reality with art, Thompson was able to convey the Jamaican culture virtually in his Digital Art Experience Show dubbed “Mango.”

Held at the AC Marriott Hotel, “Mango” attracted art and technology lovers alike with a wonderful blend of both on display. Thompson has been turning a few heads with his art, as he was recently involved in the 9th Annual Vibes 305 Basel Art Show in Miami, Florida. Also, heads have been turned locally, as VM Wealth Management caught wind of Thompson’s talent and intentions and decided they would love to be the driving force behind this revolution. In conversation with Mr Rezworth Burchenson, the Chief Executive Officer of VM Wealth Management, he told CARIB VOXX that VM Wealth Management has been following the cultural space, which there has been proof of regarding their involvement. “It’s new, it’s novel, it’s immersive, and we like to align our brands with creative expressions of that type,” said Mr Burchenson of Thompson’s art. Mr Burchenson spoke on the powerfulness of the expression and how he believes that the overall value of a digital art showcase will increase over time.

Representing Jamaica and its culture in more ways than one, Don Dada fused augmented reality with art, putting on display the vibrance and energy of the region. Through art, he told stories of the choppa/hustler mentality, dancehall culture, and even a tribute to the 50th anniversary of “The Harder They Come.”

Speaking to CARIB VOXX, Diane, another representative of VM Wealth Management, told us how Thompson’s art aligns with VM and their digital transformation journey. She also spoke on the disruptiveness of technology and how it affects investments, and on the translation of Thompson’s art into NFTs and how it makes for a perfect partnership.

Through the screens on their phones, Don Dada introduced patrons and art lovers to a universe, the “DONDAVERSE,” to be exact. A new experience for many and an eye-opening experience for all as Thompson continues to push boundaries and lessen the gap between art and technology, we can confidently say the culture is in great hands.
