Often, the role of a model and an influencer are confused by the masses. Having an alluring physique, trendy apparel and a plethora of pictures with inane captions doesn’t mean that anybody truly values your opinion. There is no debating the importance of models in the industry but a good influence in its purest form is a more layered individual.
As we traverse through the highs and lows of the entertainment circuit in Trinidad & Tobago, it would be remiss to ignore the contribution of Nakiah Castang, as one of these individuals. Having worked with brands such as KFC, B mobile, and Sacha Cosmetics; the track record to substantiate the claim of Nakiah being one of the most prolific influencers in Trinidad & Tobago definitely exists.
As she edges closer to 200k followers on Instagram every day, it’s mystifying how organic this growth process has been for Nakiah. Her down-to-earth personality and relatively unassuming demeanour doesn’t fully encapsulate the lively and effervescent personality she has. It’s the interesting combination of those factors that make her so relatable.
In reflecting on her journey thus far she stated “ My page started to blow up when I was 15, that was the year 2016 after I did a musical.ly (which was what TikTok was called) that went viral on YouTube & Facebook. My very first client as an influencer was a clothing brand named Sauce Avenue which basically introduced me to the influencer world, as I had no idea that it was even a thing, following them was a skincare brand named Nuba Caribbean, 868 Frames, an eyewear company and multiple local and international clothing companies. “
Delving more into the topic of relatability and its importance as an influencer she asserted that “I try to make my content as interactive and professional as possible, even though most, if not all of them are recorded in different rooms in my house with my 2 light boxes and my dad’s Canon camera. Whatever I’m asked to create content for, I envision myself scrolling through Instagram, and what would draw my attention to that particular product or video, and apply that. Even though I am 7 years into content creation, I still do research and follow international full-time content creators and get inspiration from them as well, and I put all those ideas together to help create the best content for businesses and my followers. “
Despite all her success, her insatiable desire to achieve knows no bounds, and pursuant to that point, she recently signed with Hi Esteem Agency. She had no hesitation about sharing the Caribbean brands she is eager to work with, of the few that she hasn’t already. “I’d love to work with Caribbean Airlines, an insurance company like Guardian Holdings, a clothing company like Cocoberry Bowtique and Creamery Novelties.”
