“You won’t have me begging and pleading for your love.”
Combining lyrical depth, smooth vocals and raw emotion, Trinidadian R&B artist Nathan Marcelin has given us ‘Beg & Plead’ – an arguably timeless track. It’s definitely one to put you in your feelings if you’ve had similar experiences.
The song was co-written by his colleague and fellow artist Jimmy October in 2017. However, it was only officially released in September 2018. The infectious melody is courtesy Precision Productions.
‘Beg & Plead’ discusses the frustration of a one-sided relationship. This is something Nathan has had first-hand experience with. He says it’s about knowing your worth and being able to leave a relationship or situation that’s simply not working out. This is evident in the line, “If I’m holding on to nothing, then tell me what I’m wanting.” He believes it’s applicable to relationships of any nature. He refuses to beg and/or plead for anyone’s love, time, or attention.
“Relationships are the only things that we need to always maintain and strengthen. But sometimes relationships can feel so one-sided and toxic that it feels like you have no escape. ‘Beg and Plead’ is about realizing you deserve better and taking the necessary steps to find the cure, which is ultimately a relationship where both partners are equals, two halves making one whole.”

The music video, directed and edited by Gemi-Ni, is nothing short of creative. Nathan found the experience to be an interesting one despite some minor challenges. He says he would definitely work with her again. This was the first time the two had worked together.
He says the feedback has been great thus far. He added that he is grateful it has resonated with so many people.
“People would walk up to me in person and say “Hey, I really like that song you did,” and tell me how much they can relate to it.”
