A beautifully blended, riveting experience, infused with Jamaican and Ghanaian cultures, with a dash of world renowned Jamaican, U.K. and Ghanaian Djs. Put that altogether and you have a perfectly served vibrant event. The event is slated for December 24, 2019 at East Legon in Accra, Ghana at Pearly Gate Garden and will be the event’s second staging. PinexGinja hopes to gain more patrons than last year, as approximately 500 people attended the event. This event is definitely an annual “must reach” event. We sat down with the co-creators of PinexGinja, Lakeisha Marie and Mark Beckford to get an inside scope of whats to come this year.
CARIB VOXX: “So who will be apart of this staging of PinexGinja?”
Mark Beckford: “Essentially, we are bringing a Jamaican session to Ghana with great drinks, great cocktails and great food. We will be bringing in Dj Franco from Jamaica and in addition to him, we will also be bringing in Juls Baby. Juls Baby is a renowned Ghanaian producer based in the U.K, who has produced for Drake, Mr.Eazi and Wizkid. We will also be having art installations and overall bringing an experience that Ghana has never had before, the overall vibe of the event will be fantastic. We will be kicking off the party season in Ghana. We expect people from the diaspora to be there as this will be a great connection.
CARIB VOXX: “What would be the main reasons for persons to come out to this event?”
Lakeisha Marie: “I think these days, especially amongst people of African descent, there has been a general increase of awareness that has become a part of the culture. A consciousness of really loving who you are, loving where you come from and really celebrating it. For people who have never been to Ghana or are anticipating coming to Ghana, we’ve really pulled together all elements of “blackness”. This event generally heightens all elements and all aspects of black culture together through music, through performance and through culture. We of course have the food attached to it; we are really pulling elements of Jamaican content. We used the Rocker’s flyer as inspiration to create our flyer. We were really pulling from ourselves as well to re-create something new to celebrate who we are”.
The creators expect that the event will grow exponentially and become its own international franchise. As well as, they would like it to be a platform that will truly connect the Caribbean and Africa to expositions and summits starting with Jamaica and Ghana. The creators also hope that even if people are unable to travel to Ghana for this event that social media will help to broadcast PinexGinja to a worldwide audience.
CARIB VOXX: “How has social media impacted your event?”
Lakeisha Marie: “This is the main way we can properly market our event, as social media helps us to connect with our audience who are disbursed. So I would say it has impacted our event in a major way”.
