“I’m chilling in my hotel room, and the cops came to check me… whole bunch of them.”
Jamaican reggae icon Buju Banton’s hotel room was searched by officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) this evening.
Buju, born Mark Myrie, is currently staying at the Hilton Trinidad hotel in Port of Spain. He is in the country for the much anticipated ‘I Am Legend’ concert which he will be headlining tomorrow at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
He took to Instagram to post a video about the search.
He says the officers indicated that they had a warrant to search his room. Buju then assured his T&T fans that he still has love for them. “They can’t distract us, that’s why we’re here. For you, not them,” Banton said.
The singer was previously unable to enter the country due to his criminal record but was granted an exemption by Minister of National Security, Stuart Young, to perform at the concert.
Local media outlets contacted Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, who says nothing illegal was found.
