Social Media has been flooded with brightly-colored flyers telling the news. From your local Instagram feeds to your favorite dancehall artists’ IG stories, you may have already seen it and wondered what it’s about – no worries, we’re here to spread the word. This Sunday, November 29, the “Unruly Boss” goes live with Boiler Room TV to digitally perform his latest album, FIXTAPE, live for the first time since its quarantine release in August of this year.
Boiler Room, an international broadcasting platform based in London, celebrates its tenth anniversary of existence this year and has featured over 5000 artists from 200 cities around the world during its time in operation. Known for live music sessions and its philosophy of regarding artists as “the sole attraction,” the Boiler Room experience is sure to be an extremely authentic one for fans, but simultaneously a milestone for any artist making international moves.
This being Popcaan’s first-ever live performance of the full FIXTAPE album, the digital show is a widely anticipated one that is sure to be filled to the brim with exciting appearances, exquisite showmanship, and shining examples of how contemporary dancehall shows can be done, even now through virtual broadcasting platforms.
Boiler Room TV has announced that the show will be live streamed from the scenic location of one of Kingston’s historic forts, as our rich culture would call for with an international event such as this. The official lineup announcement for the night is obscurely listed as ‘Popcaan & Friends’, intentionally withholding the identities of possible guests and counterparts to be featured on stage alongside Poppy on Sunday evening.
FIXTAPE itself features a star-studded tracklist containing 19 songs of unconventional dancehall; yet, in true Andre Sutherland style however, the show is promised to also spotlight a run of all-time classics and fan favorites from the entire span of Popcaan’s skyrocketing career. This particular show is also unique in nature for the Boiler Room platform as it will not be recorded and placed in the website’s archive for later viewing (as is usually done with Boiler Room performances); thus, the performance is being marketed as a live, one-off special.
The digital live show is set to kick off at 5 p.m. Jamaican time and is an exclusive event, with worldwide access solely granted through the purchase of tickets from the Boiler Room website. A limited edition merchandise capsule for the show will also be available in the form of Unruly x Boiler Room branded hoodies, crew neck long sleeves, and bandanas. These items, however, will only be made available as an additional treat to ticket-holders during the live stream of the OVO Sound artist’s live album performance debut.
Go online to live.boilerroom.tv/ or click the link in @boilerroomtv ‘s bio to get your ticket and set a countdown reminder in time for the live stream’s kickoff at 5 p.m. Jamaican time this Sunday, November 29. In the meantime, listen to FIXTAPE on your favorite streaming platform to adequately prepare yourself lyric-wise (if you aren’t already prepared) for Popcaan’s return to the virtual stage.
