A bona fide representation of the versatility that characterizes art, Stefan Amali – in addition to being a Jamaican designer and visual artist – has released a new single that is sure to woo you. The release of ‘All About You Visual Voyage’ follows hot on the heels of his album ‘Identity Politics’ that was made public earlier this year.
In a statement issued by the artiste to Carib Voxx, Stefan Amali reveals that his aim for this track is “to communicate the notion that no shade of melanin is too dark, no tint of melanin is too light. Not only do our lives matter, but as black people we are also the most incredible vessels of love!” Amali recognizes his unique position and ability to highlight the black woman as a form of beauty that is too often overlooked in mainstream media and culture; he states “As an immensely privileged black man, I felt like it would be irresponsible of me not to use my art as a vehicle that can affirm, acknowledge, and protect black women.”
True to the artiste’s vision, ‘All About You Visual Voyage’ is a tribute to black love encased in a ballad like I promise you’ve never heard before. The fast-paced lyrics tell the tale of a beautiful love, from inception to infatuation. Stefan Amali uses these words to illustrate his adoration for and devotion to the object of his affection. As an upcoming artiste, Amali is known to infuse various genres (and languages) into his work; this track is no exception. Delivering a fresh sound to the Jamaican music scene, his artistic talent is also evident through the visual feature of this track.
Centred on the theme of a voyage, the video showcases scenes of the young lovers romping on the beach and enjoying themselves in the sand, as well as a romantic jaunt on a boat. Black love in this feature is presented as carefree and pleasant, a step away from the stereotype of “struggle love” that is often romanticized in popular culture. In fact, Amali extols his co-star Briana Smith as “easily one of the most naturally gifted, naturally beautiful women I’ve ever met… she embodies a precious archetype of beauty that needs more representation in mainstream media.”
Of course, no work of art can be complete without a sterling production team, in this case including the likes of Kevstar Records, Douglas Flannigan and Anya Jean Phillips. Amali’s mother, Allison Bowes was responsible for designing all his outfits in the feature. The video was shot in Miami by Adrian Perez and directed by Ronald Wayne and Stefan Amali himself.
