Iwer takes lyrical jab at Machel Montano; warns he’s ready for 2019 Road March battle
18 years later, Road March Bacchanal has returned. T&T soca artiste Neil ‘Iwer’ George released ‘Road March Bacchanal 2’ last Friday.
The new brass filled track is his 2nd release for the 2019 carnival season. It features live guitars by Kenny Phillips and was produced by Badjohn Republic – the same local producer who gave us his 2018 hit ‘Savannah’.
The original ‘Road March Bacchanal’ was written about the controversial Road March in 2000 where he tied with Soca legend Austin ‘Superblue’ Lyons. This led him to take a break from the competition but he returned in December 2017. Similarly, in the new track, he comically summarizes the 2018 Road March race and declares his confidence for 2019.
This year’s winner was Machel Montano whose hit ‘Soca Kingdom’ featuring Superblue was played 336 times at judging points. Iwer placed 2nd with ‘Savannah’ being played 140 times, and Patrice Roberts’ ‘Sweet Fuh Days’ came 3rd with 112 plays.
Online reactions to the new track ranged from “Why Iwer so bitter?” to “This going to mash up fete!” George made it clear, however, that this track isn’t his Road March entry but that we should expect it in January.
Will 2019 finally be Iwer’s year? Listen to the track below:
