On June 27th, the Harry J Studio celebrated the release of Royal Blu’s long-awaited debut album, ushering in a new era. Spain Root, celebrating the proud Spanish Town native’s upbringing and journey in music to this monumental milestone.
No stranger to the scene Royal Blu has been known as a lyrical, witty, and say-it-as-it-is artist, with unique flows and concepts. An accumulation of his skill and experiences can be heard on this new album, Spain Root. The album boasts 14 tracks, all personal and curated to take the listener on a journey with the artist. The featured artists complimented the album’s sound immensely with talents like Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid, Protoje, the Autos, soulful newcomer Akina Eman, Dyani, and Runkus. Every feature brought their individuality, which, however, complements the story being told.
“I feel ecstatic and grateful being a part of the album,” Akina Eman, who is featured on the track Forever for Now, told CARIB VOXX about her being a part of the project. “How I ended up being on the album was very organic, and I really enjoyed the process of seeing all of Royal Blu, G.Wav music, Riddim Boss, and Runkus work on this project; it was really inspiring.”

Akina has released an EP, Slumber Tapes, followed by the single For You this year. She was given high praise by man of the moment Royal Blu for her involvement on the album.
“It’s a surreal feeling,” said Royal Blu, on the whole moment and release of his first album. “Through meeting the right people and doing the right work, it became a reality. That includes everyone involved: G.wav, which consists of Riddim Boss, Akina, Kalex, Runkus, and myself. They oversaw the whole project as well as contributions from JLL, Dela Groove, and others.”
He continued by speaking on the theme of Spain Root, explaining how Spanish Town shaped his life and music so he pays homage to the place in which he is rooted no matter where he might branch off to.
Spain Root had Harry J’s studio jumping as each track was introduced by Royal Blu or his fellow G.Wav musicians. They shared the emotions, the stories, and the processes behind each track, giving the audience an authentic connection to the project. Between tracks, congratulations and praises were sung for Royal Blu by his fellow artists that were involved.
