Social media management is undoubtedly one of the core tenets of digital marketing. Though it has become a prevalent offering across industries, many still do not have a holistic understanding of what it entails. Mastering the nuances of content creation and management, ad management and brand community management are just a few of the core fundamentals that social media managers, like Sarita Nauth, have to navigate daily.
Speaking to CARIB VOXX Nauth proclaimed, “It’s my goal to uplift the community using my access and skill set gained from over a decade in the industry.”
Nauth serves as a Senior Social Media Manager at two of the largest media companies in the world. She notes this job requires way more professional depth than meets the eye. It requires the ability to analyse data from social media campaigns and make critical decisions about the direction and frequency of content dissemination.
Highlighting her journey Nauth explained, “I started off in 2014 as an Intern for VH1’s social team and have worked my way up to a Senior Social Media Manager and Producer on VH1 Brand Social, and more recently, the BET Media Networks. Over the last, almost decade I’ve cultivated and executed award-winning social media strategies for both scripted and reality TV shows and even reality competition shows like America’s Next Top Model.”
She continued, “Along the way, I’ve created and produced VH1’s first-ever beauty digital series, Black Girl Beauty, and more recently our Heritage Month Group Chats that spotlight cultures that reflect our VH1 audience, like Caribbean American Heritage Month.” Impressively, Nauth concluded, “I’ve led and assisted in top-tier social media strategies for tentpole-awards shows like the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), MTV Movie & TV Awards, BET Hip Hop Honors, and more. I’m beyond grateful that I’ve been able to flourish and stretch my wings in growing the brand and creating a culture where our audience feels seen and represented by a major network.”
“I was born in Guyana, and raised in Belize and if there’s one thing being Caribbean has blessed me with is a strong work ethic and discipline,” Nauth beamed. “At such a young age, we’re taught always to excel and shine bright no matter what anyone says because it’s part of who we are and it’s what allowed me to bloom in places I never knew I could. With the knowledge of how multi-hyphenated our people and culture are, being Caribbean has given me the ability to navigate many diverse settings and share the pride I have for my culture through my work in spaces where they aren’t often represented.”
She proudly proclaimed, “My goal is to always represent who I am and where I come from – not a watered-down version to appease others but the boldness in which we shine.”
Nauth has a keen eye for content and her resume speaks volumes but she cautiously stated, “Not all that glitters is gold – having worked in social media for over a decade and it has been a journey as the landscape shifts quite often. Being adaptable and constantly reinventing, not only yourself but the brands you work on, is a lot more than working red carpets and television shows in my case.”
Describing the way social media management has affected her life Nauth noted, “Many social media managers can attest to the toll that working in such a fast-paced environment can take on your mental health and social life. Getting ahead of burnout is crucial. Learn how to discern the real “fires” when it comes to the news cycle, and be there for your team authentically. The rollercoaster, that is social media, can change in an instant but what’s helped me is not letting it change who I am.”
Driven and determined are just a few words that come to mind when beginning to describe the tenacious spirit of Sarita Nauth. Expanding her skill set into the world of videography has been the latest endeavour for the glamorous social media maven and we are elated to see what this Caribbean queen conquers next.
