Released just three months after our first look at the single in the form of a visualizer, the self-directed video is three minutes and ten seconds of short cinema. Stunning visuals accompany Sevana’s powerful vocals to deliver a rich story in all its completeness, of the myriad of blessings that she has been granted.
‘Blessed’ is the fourth single coming from the Westmoreland native’s Be Somebody EP, which dropped on July 31 earlier this year. Following in the wake of the sophomore EP’s other singles such as ‘If Only You Knew’, and ‘Mango’, the continued partnership between this artist and her favorite director Yoram Savion has set a proven precedent for works containing striking visuals, beautiful imagery, and mesmerizing movement.
In addition to the song’s reflective tones of gratitude and grooving bassline, there are scenes of the singer in full embrace of her blessings under the occupation of a rural lifestyle and its demands and daily processes. Distinctive makeup and silky smooth durags adorn and highlight her prominent facial features and graceful movements as she moves between scenes of high hilltops, tall trees, and rocky terrain. Seemingly under the almost constant siege of a mysterious, watching entity, Sevana sings passionately of her favor in the eyes of The Most High -a protective force surrounding her in all of her movements. She sings, “The good book tell me seh no weapon formed against me, so meh nuh worry what them plan fi come and do.”
Sevana’s resounding message throughout the single’s duration is that she continues to stand firmly rooted in her faith despite the occurrences of fear, panic, and other obstructions that may try to block the path to her achievement of her fullest self. Having ‘outrun’ her demons, she is guided by Divine Intervention to a higher state of harmony with herself on the journey that ensues as she grows as an artist.
As a singer and performer, Sevana’s style is constantly switching up in a way that is not by any means at odds with her other works; rather, each acts as a sample in forming a body of self-discovery, of all of her variable yet intertwined elements which make her whole. Time and time again, Sevana’s sound, stories, and smooth-as-butter delivery shine through from all angles. Like a prism held up to the sun’s light, both the video and song for ‘Blessed’ radiate brilliance.
‘Blessed’ is produced by IzyBeats whose production credits include hits such as Koffee’s ‘Toast’ and ‘Silver Tongue Devil’ by Masego and Shenseea. The single (as part of the entire Be Somebody EP) is available on all streaming platforms.
