June celebrated as Caribbean Heritage Month in the United States will see New Orleans living up to its reputation as the Caribbean’s northernmost city and hosting the nine-day NOLA Caribbean Experience. Attendees from over thirty states and the wider Caribbean diaspora can expect nothing short of excitement with highly enjoyable events culminating in a grand weekend-long showcase of musical talent from all over the Caribbean and even New Orleans. The Experience will feature Caribbean centric activities for everyone with a History lecture, domino tournament, pool parties, Afro-Latin dance, Mississippi riverboat all-white party, 90’s dancehall bashment, carnival parade complete with numerous pretty mas bands, j’ouvert style paint VS powder band, New Orleans brass bands and mardi gras Indians and New Orleans dance groups.
The kids won’t be left out of the excitement with a kids’ corner featuring Baby Base Camp, African drum lessons, and Latin tent featuring music and culture from the Latin Caribbean. Persons finding themselves in New Orleans in June, with Caribbean heritage or not, will enjoy themselves at the NOLA Caribbean Experience.
