On July 18th, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) will be hosting The Other Side of Now: Foresight in Contemporary Caribbean Art, a thematic group show which encapsulates the theme of the future of the Caribbean region.

The art show which will be on display from July 18, 2019, through June 7, 2020, will be featuring 14 artists from the region namely: Angel Otero, Andrea Chung, Deborah Anzinger, Alicia Milne, Charles Campbell, Hulda Guzman, Louisa Marajo, Manuel Mathieu, Lavar Munroe, Sheena Rose, Jamilah Sabur, Deborah Jack, Nyugen Smith, and Cristina Tufiño. This show is the brainchild of co-curator María Elena Ortiz, PAMM Associate Curator, and Dr Marsha Peare, Cultural Theorist based in the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad.

The vision of The Other Side of Now exhibition was to think beyond the typical cultural narratives of catastrophe both geographical and political that continue to frame the region, asking instead: What might a Caribbean future look like? It sought artists from the English, French, Dutch, and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean to capture the future of the region as a tangible time and space. The Other Side of Now will feature video, sculpture, paintings, and installation works showcasing ideas of survival, community, self-acceptance, environmental rights, and creative resourcefulness geared toward a present-future.

The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is a modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries. (PAMM) promotes artistic expression and the exchange of ideas, advancing public knowledge and appreciation of art, architecture, and design, and reflecting the diverse community of its pivotal geographic location at the crossroads of the Americas. The 35-year-old South Florida institution, formerly known as Miami Art Museum (MAM) and led by Director Franklin Sirmans, opened a new building, designed by world-renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron, on December 4, 2013, in Downtown Miami’s Museum Park.
