I’m Amoié Hutchinson and I’m a memory hoarder!
When I look back at a photograph, I’m able to relive and feel the exact sentiments again. Photography is much more than pressing a button – it’s about freezing time and holding onto that exact moment a little longer. It’s an opportunity to share a story with others, for them to borrow your experiences. The phrase, “a picture is worth a thousand words” is true – a picture has the ability to evoke feelings within you without anyone having to explain the context. That’s what I seek to extend to those who share in my work with me. I want them to feel what I felt when I decided to grab my gears. I am a Canon Rebel T6 owner and my go-to lens is my 50mm lens. I’m also known as the curly haired girl running around with a red camera (silicone case) trying to get the perfect shot!
Portrait Season – Nyron Wright
This piece was done to celebrate the richness and beauty of black skin. The light and shadows subtly accentuates his features, allowing him to exude strength and power, that of which belongs to a black man.
Product Photography
I started feeling uninspired in light of the Covid-19 pandemic measures and felt as if I was out of sync with my passion. I decided to create my own Light Box out of a regular old box, a few blank papers/black cloth and three (3) light sources – and with that I challenged myself with product photography. I grabbed a watch and began shooting. Many people saw the images and thought they were from an actual watch ad – which was GREAT feedback! It was refreshing to tackle uncharted territory and being so pleased with the results.
Landscape – Flamingo
On my trip to Bermuda, there was one theme that stuck out to me – serenity. There is a level of tranquility and enchantment about the simple rules of nature that can be applicable to how we perceive obstacles, and life in general.
Portrait Season – Kim-Marie Spence and Christopher Stewart
I think this image portrays a vibe for itself – the afro, the chain, the strength and unity in the stance, definitely a 90’s shot. I particularly love the symmetry of the faces, and the wild and free form of their afros.
Landscape – Composition
Warick, Bermuda: “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending” – C.S. Lewis
This is hands-down my favorite shot I have ever taken. I love the overall composition and the whole essence of the shot feels like a fresh start. To the left of the photograph, there is a staircase railing leading your attention to the wide and open road. The road creates a pathway between the trees which give a feeling of embarking on a journey, and just as how the road is winding, so is the journey of life. A picture like this resonates deeply within me because it reminds me that life is a journey and should not be rushed irrespective of where and when you start.
St. George’s Parish, Bermuda: There’s a beauty in finding the natural compositions in nature – undisturbed, authentic and existing in of itself. I liked this shot for how the tree branches created a subtle frame for the house sitting atop the water. A very picturesque moment that reminded me of one of those impromptu beach trips to Portland with a group of friends and some Redstripe!
5 Star SOL
Had the opportunity to have a one on one moment with this amazing and authentic artist. He took me into his space, his element and allowed me to really tap into his journey.
