Daniel Boyce

I am Daniel Boyce, a professional fashion & beauty photographer. I was born in London, England, but my mother moved us to her home, Barbados when I was 10 years old. It was a brutal transition lol. After what felt like learning a new language lol, I went to Alexandra Secondary School. I was always captivated by the arts, but I never pursued them because I couldn’t draw which I regret, honestly, but hindsight is always 20/20. Nonetheless, I remained in love with arts like music, painting, drawing, and the emotional stimulation behind color, but when I went to college on scholarship in Canada I pursued software engineering, which again, I regret, although I strived in that field. As I got older I fell deeper in love with music, color and light manipulation.

I decided to pursue music and art. I took piano lessons, I taught myself the guitar and I bought a camera. I chose to purchase a camera because I wanted to control light and colour to produce striking imagery. I knew I could do this via painting, but learning to draw was not appealing, honestly, and photography provided an alternative. I ordered my camera from amazon, and while it was on it’s way to Barbados I decided to read a few books on photography and from the moment I finished that book I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was amazed at what could be done with light and shadows to evoke a wide array of emotional responses from viewers. I loved how different colors could be used to tell differing stories. I loved how colors complemented each other to harmonize a photograph. I could go on forever lol, what I am trying to say is I love light, I love the traits of light and I love manipulating it to create strong imagery. So, right now, I am a full-time photographer and I could not be happier. Literally!

Henre Designs

This image was shot for Henre Designs of Antigua. Their designer Daniel Henry was visiting Barbados for a workshop and I was commissioned to photograph his signature piece. Steffan Burgess of REI Fashion Academy and I were creative directors on the project and we decided we wanted to channel a old British feel, so we drove around Bridgetown till we found this alley and the rest came together like magic.

I was asked to photograph the winners of Runway Blitz 2018. I can’t remember the name of the building we shot in, but as soon as I entered I noticed this striking wall that I wanted to cast a narrow beam of light across to illuminate my models for the evening. I instructed the models on how to pose and manipulated the colour of the surrounds in post processing. Image 4 was also shot in front of the exact same wall, but like I said above I changed the colour of the wall in photoshop.

REI Fashion Academy

This was another collaboration between REI Fashion academy, Candi Fab(who made the fascinator) and myself. I wanted create an image that seemed like it could have been shot 50-60 years ago. Marissa of OMEGA Models was perfect! After making the image black and white in lightroom and editing in photoshop I believe I achieved what I was going for.
