The camera is the least important element in photography. What’s most significant to me is the story being told. Photography allows me to capture a very precise moment in time. Something that didn’t exist before and won’t ever exist again. An experience shared between, for instance, two people meeting for the first time, or friends around a table engrossed in a lively conversation. For me, immortalizing moments like these reveals the richness of reality.
Sunsets
One of my favorite ways to end the day is to just stop by any beach I’m passing and watch the sunset. On this particular day, I stopped by Bob Marley beach. As I was watching some guys play football on the beach, I spotted him packing his bag and getting his bicycle ready for his journey home.
Black and White Portraits
This photo was taken at Bob Marley beach during sunset hours. A few kids that live near the beach started to hang out with us. I took this photo while we all sat around one of the fishing boats trying to decide who was going into the water first. In the end, us girls stayed on the sand and the boys went in.
Surf sessions with Ivah
What better way to start the year than watching the sun rise over the mountains, a camera in hand and your friend @ivah_the_great on some waves. We had a sleepover, woke up right before sunrise and headed out to the beach to capture him surf until the sun came up.
Off guard Shots
I was hanging out on a beach in Portland getting some surf shots of friends. He and his friend were hanging around us because they loved the drone and I snapped this photo after watching him drink the coconut. I was contemplating for a while whether or not I should take the picture.
Tacky Warrior
His name is Derrick ‘Tacky Warrior’ Robinson and for 11 straight years he has walked from the St. Mary Parish Library to Emancipation Park in New Kingston (approximately 13.5hrs, 59km) with 30lbs of chain around his neck in a bid to get Tacky, who led the Easter Monday revolt in Jamaica, recognized as a national hero. I went to meet up with him on a Sunday and after sitting with him for a few hours, I asked him if I could take a photo of him before I left and this photo is the result.
Spontaneous Moments
Sometimes some of the best ideas come up when you’re hanging out with your friends. I took this photo in my bedroom just playing around with lighting, with @moonlivechilde (in photo) and @donalddelahye using only our phone lights.
