Naphtali Cave

My name is Naphtali Cave, also known as CA.VE on social media, and I’m a Visual Creative from the beautiful island of Barbados. I don’t like to place myself in the box as a photographer, although that’s what I’m best known for, I prefer the term Visual Creative because I do a bit of every visually creative art form such as photography, videography, graphic design and motion graphics.

Although I’m best known for my portraits, I also love architectural photography. I prefer shooting at night when everyone else is asleep and the streets are clear because I feel like these images are different and show a world around us that is missed during the daytime. However, photographing in these conditions can be very challenging and I think that’s why I love it so much. I strive to create images that make people feel or think something that they have never felt or thought of before and by extension opening their minds to new ideas. I believe that if a picture is worth 1000 words then a video must be worth trillions and I see videography as yet another way to express myself. Through creating videos, I strive to, just like I do with photography, make the audience feel something they’ve never felt before. My creations are inspired by my friends, family, and other creators like Mario Christie, Maya Amara, Shane Eastmond, Von Hall, just to name a few. Whether it’s their music or their paintings, their creations fuel a fire within that allows me to produce high-quality work through a variety of mediums.

Spontaneous Shots

This photo is most definitely my personal favorite of all time and simply because it wasn’t planned and shouldn’t exist but was just a case of being at the right place at the right time. I had set out to do a photoshoot with my friend Courtney Walker, who is an extremely talented dancer, as I wanted to capture her beauty and her art form while adding some culture and tradition into the mix. We accomplished exactly what we had set out to do, had wrapped up the shoot and started hiking our way up a trail back to the car as it was getting dark. Once we got to the top of the hill I saw a breathtaking sunset with the sun slowly falling behind a hill in the distance. I quickly dropped all my gear, got my camera out, grabbed Courtney, moved close to the cliff’s edge and began shooting without giving her much direction. This image was the result, leaving me with the permanent belief that the best images are never planned.

Musical Inspirations

In this image, I was able to combine my photography and graphic design skills to create something different from my traditional pieces of work. This is the beautiful, talented and amazing artist Kristen Walker. The photo was captured backstage before one of her performances. I was inspired to create this image from a line in her song “Wind Blows” where she sings “I just wanna fly”.

City of London’s skyline

This shot expresses my style and passion perfectly. This is a photo of the City of London’s skyline shot from Stratford, London which is over 5.5 miles away. I believe this expresses my style and passion because of how difficult it was to capture this photo and shows the challenges I face head-on with the style of photography I love.

Portraits

This is an image of my life long friend and music producer Ramon Moore also known as The Legend Moore. This image was taken in an art gallery in Vancouver and represents a change in my style from taking portraits and shows a shift in my creative process. The photo might appear to be quite a regular photo but for me, this shows an upward trajectory in my photography and my creativity.

There are a lot of photos I could have included but these photos represent who I am as a Visual Creative and display with extreme accuracy the creative process I go through from an initial idea to the end product you see.
