Romario Lynch

Lynch is a messy haired visual connoisseur from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica otherwise known as the ‘breadbasket’ parish. I captured my father’s camera and have been capturing culture and immortalizing souls since 2014.

What initiated your choice to get into photography?

I’ve always been interested in imagery and “freezing time”. Seeing images in books and newspapers is what drew my attention to photography. I started taking photos in high school with camera phones. I didn’t get an actual camera until 2014.

Which aspects of photography do you enjoy the most and which ones aren’t necessarily your favorite?, I assume the editing process might be included here?

The editing is actually not the worst part. It’s fun to play around with looks and moods. The actual shooting is what can be most draining. However, when both the subject and the photographer are creatively compatible, the entire process is enjoyable.

In Jamaica, photographers almost nuff like recording artistes. What do you think sets you apart from other photographers?

In the case of candid photography, I think it’s the fact that I capture moments one wouldn’t see or remember. Capturing a person’s true self. As for conceptual work, it might be my use of dark or contrasted visuals. This isn’t particularly rare but it’s however not widely used out here.

Hot sunny Sunday. Dead grass. Blue skies. Splendid.

I really like the blurred grass in the foreground and the way the sun hits her skin.
