It seemed like a perfectly ordinary Sunday evening on August 7. That is until around 8 PM when numerous tweets saying “PROJECT XIV: GOODBYE JAVA” began circulating on Trini Twitter. With no explanation as to why or even prior indication that this was happening, many were left in a state of confusion. Was this the result of a mass hacking? Perhaps one big inside joke? CARIB VOXX sought to get to the bottom of this.
Our investigation led us to the discovery of a brand new event committee named The Clubhouse, with the mysterious PROJECT XIV: GOODBYE JAVA being their first event. As the July/August vacation comes to a close, The Clubhouse aims to give it a proper sendoff with “a house party you’ll never forget.” It’s rare to see such a high level of mystique surrounding an event of this nature but that also adds to the appeal. A committee member who wished to remain anonymous agreed stating, “No one really knows what it’s gonna be like and yet they anticipate something great because of how we present it.”
And it’s truly a unique presentation. Aside from having the name of the event plastered all over Twitter, it also made its way to Instagram. Countless stories, no doubt from committee members, were uploaded with PROJECT XIV: GOODBYE JAVA splayed across images of alcohol, fireworks, and even a burning car. The advertising paints a vivid picture of the atmosphere the committee hopes to curate at the party. On August 14 the official platforms uploaded an eerie found footage style video. Shot in first person and unbeknownst to them we followed members of The Clubhouse around until they arrived at the party location. The video offered us not only the first glimpse of the setting but a taste of what’s in store. The audience, now eavesdropping on their conversation, heard committee members discussing the layout of the event. Everything from drink specials, a VIP room to a “steam room” were mentioned. However, before we can find out more, the unidentified cameraman is caught.
As unusual as the advertising method is, it appears to have had the desired effect. A large number of people have already registered for the event, with the amount of soon-to-be attendees growing every day. The Clubhouse has big dreams of becoming “a staple liming spot” that provides an “alternative experience for young people.” It’s an ambitious undertaking for a new committee but with such a stellar debut it’s not hard to imagine that it will be achieved. However, once all is revealed there’s only so much The Clubhouse can do to ensure that this house party is one for the ages. Therefore, placing the onus on guests to create a memorable night.
Aside from the bits and pieces of information disclosed, the entire event remains shrouded in mystery. Not even the location is known publicly, with official posts just listing it as “South”. And why the number XIV? Well, the same committee member tells us, “You’ll just have to wait and see.” Delving into the enigma that is PROJECT XIV: GOODBYE JAVA leaves one with even more questions than they had before. However, we trust that all will be revealed at 9 PM on August 26 at one unforgettable house party.
