Singer-songwriter Yanah is set on becoming an internationally recognized name. Her style of music is not the typical sound you would hear from a Jamaican. She is heavily influenced by the neo-soul genre which she fuses with the sounds of reggae, along with a soothing soprano tone. Some of her musical inspirations include Sade, Lianne La Havas, and the great Roberta Flack.

The Spanish Town native released her first single ‘So Shy’ in 2017, which was followed by ‘Believe In You’, ‘Time Capsule’, ‘The Cycle’ and ‘Doe Try Me’. This time around, she linked up with longtime friend and producer Karlon “Kone” Edmondson to give us her first single of 2019 ‘The Root’.

“This is a song which exemplifies black empowerment. The song transcends a powerful and positive message for all the kings and queens, reminding them that they are indeed, The Root – being black, strong, powerful and beautiful in nature.”

Yanah has been honing her craft; writing, recording and performing at numerous local events, including the 2018 staging of Live From Kingston. She is currently working on her first EP and is set to release more singles by the end of 2019.

Follow her on Instagram for the latest updates on her journey.
