With new liming spots popping up frequently, it can be difficult to choose the ideal place to unwind after an exhausting work week or the perfect venue to make unforgettable memories with friends. That’s where Calabash Garden comes in. Tucked away on 48 Tragerete Rd. in Port of Spain this blink and you’ll miss it restaurant and private event space is the definition of a hidden gem. However, reservations are always required to gain access to this oasis.
Once you step through the gates, you’re instantly transported to a lush garden paradise with no shortage of flora and fauna. It’s easy to forget you’re in the heart of the bustling capital of Trinidad and Tobago. Unique additions like a ping pong table and a swing set add to the charm of the space setting it apart from others on the island. But what exactly is there to do at Calabash Garden? They’ve hosted numerous successful event series focusing on delicious food, great music, and an all-around good time.
Their Brunch & Beats events served patrons dishes such as steak and their signature house fries from 10 AM to 4 PM. However, between 4 and 8 p.m., the beats portion took over. Guests were treated to a lively party atmosphere with a live DJ and no shortage of drinks. Cocktail lovers were no doubt pleased with the abundance of options including sangria, mojitos, and mimosas. Local cocktail brand Moods Premium Cocktails and Hennessy also provided additional drinks for a few iterations of the event. The popularity of Brunch & Beats eventually spawned a Valentine’s and soca edition of the function.
The venue’s Dinner Lime series on Saturdays followed a similar structure to Brunch & Beats except with a later start time of 7 PM. Guests once again participated in a traditional dining experience with a tranquil ambiance followed by a party at 10 PM. Other events included Sushi Picnic and Destino Domingo, an Afro-Cuban-themed affair. Whichever event they choose, attendees can expect a warm and friendly atmosphere cultivated by the attentive waitstaff. Calabash Garden is almost always sure to incorporate its signature cocktails and live entertainment. The venue has seen performances by producer and artist Keshav along with numerous DJs such as DJ Honey Colada, DJ duo Tiefhead, and DJ Lbee.
