Two of Jamaica’s rising stars have teamed up in a notable reggae-dancehall collaboration. Lila Iké is not known to do many collabs but we’re glad she decided to team up with Skillibeng for the remix of “Thy Will” from her 2020 EP, The ExPerience. The song premiered on February 18 via The Ebro Show on Apple Music 1.

Produced by Protoje, J.L.L., and iotosh, the remix has been teased over social media for a few weeks, and fans were not disappointed. Iké raps about the reality of a broken world while pleading for unity among people and God’s will to be done. Skillibeng leaves his gun talk behind for a few minutes to spit lyrics like: “Build wi wen dem wan’ wi vote fi winnings/ Den dem end up missing/ Si how people slipping?/ Yuh nuh si wi need a fixing, tell mi are you even listening?/ Di truth is hidden/ Di truth is how yuh wash wi brain and turn wi inna victim”.

What fans don’t know is that the song’s concept was born years before. Creative Director of the music video, Nickii Kane revealed to us that Lila Iké shared the song with her in either 2016 or 2017. When they decided to film a music video, both Kane and Iké really wanted to portray the theme of the song – injustice. It was shot with the intention of highlighting corruption and crime throughout all levels of society – politics, the church, and the drug trade among others. She said, “I wanted to put out a film. I didn’t want it to just be Lila performing and Skilli performing. We actually wanted to put out a message and the best way to put out that message was to put it in the form of a short film where we do short skits and we chop up that storyline and put it together”. Shot in Kingston, Jamaica, the scenes chosen and the addition of real news headlines brought home the seriousness of these issues. Something has to change.

This video is just the first offering of more music to come from Lila Iké in 2021.
