Indie Allen first appeared on the popular Jamaican TV talent competition Digicel Rising Stars in 2011. From the hundreds of entrants, he placed fourth. Since then, the soulful crooner has been dedicated to pursuing his dream of becoming a professional musician.

After enrolling at the Edna Manley College’s School of Music, he and some of his classmates formed the Phuzzion band. They built a reputation, not only one of the top bands from the institution, but also a well-respected group of musicians that have had the opportunity to tour and perform with the likes of Maxi Priest and Third World. Over time, Indie has been building his own fanbase for his music, performing in the US, Canada and Europe.

The Mixtape

Two years after releasing his ‘Indie Moment’ EP, this multi-dimensional musician has released a mixtape titled ‘Indie Me Name’.

The mixtape boasts a total of 12 songs that all show Indie’s lyrical capabilities and vocal range. ‘Indie Me Name’ is a fusion of sounds from reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, and R&B. He takes listeners on a musical journey as he sings about a range of topics such as spirituality, relationships, industry plight, financial hardship, and tenacity. Throughout the mixtape, a UK based reporter is interviewing the singer. This adds to the interactive and personal nature of the project.

Some of the standout tracks from the mixtape are ‘The West’, ‘Sweeter’, ‘Watch This’ and ‘The Prayer’. In ‘The West’, Indie sings about his hometown of Montego Bay that has been plagued by violence and criminal activities. ‘Sweeter’ is a modern take on lovers rock reggae. The track has a heavy rhythm guitar paired with Indie showing off his higher register, for the female listeners. ‘Watch This’ was Indie spitting non-stop lyrics, a brilliant display of hard-hitting bars. ‘The Prayer’ can simply be put as a track of spiritual depth that can be felt through the instrumentation and harmonies Indie delivers.

Indie is currently under the guidance of Mickey Bennett and is working on his album set to be released in 2020. Be sure to check out his current and previous releases and follow him for future projects @indiemename
